Those in attendance also included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai.
Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh said that Mr. Trong’s visit to Myanmar has been a great success as the two sides agreed to establish a comprehensive cooperative partnership, creating new opportunities for Vietnam-Myanmar relations, especially in economics, trade, and investment. Vietnam has risen to become the 9th largest trading partner and the 7th biggest foreign investor of Myanmar. By the beginning of 2017, Vietnam had invested 1.4 billion USD in 59 projects in Myanmar but bilateral trade reached only 500 million USD, Minh said while pointing out potential and advantages in the two countries' economic cooperation, particularly in banking, finance, aviation, telecommunication, mining, agro-forestry, fishery, tourism, and consumer goods production. The Deputy PM said he hopes Myanmar will continue to offer the best possible conditions for Vietnam businesses to invest in the country.
Business representatives pledged to boost economics, trade, and investment and realize agreements reached by the two countries' leaders.
