Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong delivers a speech at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy

(VOVworld) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has concluded his three-day official visit to Singapore. The visit’s outcomes open a new chapter for bilateral ties, which are flourishing. Singapore is the permanent top investor and trade partner of Vietnam. During his stay in Singapore  Trong held talks with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who is Secretary General of the People’s Action Party (PAP) of Singapore, and met with Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Chairman of the PAP Khaw Boon Wan. The talks were conducted in an open and frank manner towards common awareness. Both sides expressed their desire to deepen bilateral relationship and upgrade it to strategic partnership as well as to build an ASEAN community by 2015. Party leader Trong said:“We treasure our relationship and cooperation with Singapore and consider the deep, sincere and reliable cooperation between the two countries an important factor for the development of each country and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia.”

Hoang Binh Quan, a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee and head of its Commission for External Relations, talked about the visit’s outcomes: “The visit was successful, opening a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries, upgrade the existing ties and set guidelines for comprehensive potential cooperation in education, training, finance, national defence, and security. During talks, both sides discussed regional issues and agreed to work with ASEAN members countries for an ASEAN of unity, connectivity and stability. Both sides also exchanged views on the East Sea issues, expressing their wish that parties involved settle the East Sea issues by peaceful means on the basis of respecting international laws, including 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) towards Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC)”

He said many prospects are opening for the Vietnam-Singapore ties after the party leader’s visit.
