Chairman Hue on Friday had a meeting in Havana with the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), the Cuban Friendship Association, the schools named after Vietnam and representatives of Ben Tre village.

He said the aspiration to live in peace, independence and freedom, and the tradition of heroic struggle against foreign invaders are values shared by the two peoples, which has laid a solid foundation for their special relationship.

“Members of the Vietnamese delegation and I are able to meet in-person our close Cuban friends who have been wholeheartedly supporting Vietnam and the friendship between the two countries, not only in the past struggle for national liberation, but also in the current cause of national construction and defense of each country,” Mr. Hue said.

He recited a few lines of a poem that Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong wrote after his visit to Cuba in March 2018, when Mr. Hue was the Minister of Finance accompanying the Party leader, a visit he said he will remember forever.

“I ride the clouds and fly over the ocean

Visiting a friend country thousands of miles far away

Oh dear people

A visit full of love.”

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Hue presented gifts to ICAP leaders, founding members of the Committee for Solidarity with Vietnam, and Ben Tre village. He gave three desktop computers, which symbolize the three schools named after Vietnam including Uncle Ho Secondary School, Vo Thi Thang Secondary School and Nguyen Van Troi Secondary School.
