The mock trials were staged based on real-life violations to help fishermen better understand the legal consequences of IUU fishing and raise public awareness on legal compliance, marine resource protection, and national credibility. This was part of efforts to get the IUU “yellow card” lifted and develop sustainable fisheries.
Colonel Le Van Tu, Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 3 Command, said: “These trial cases help people understand and remember the law. This communication program has profound impacts as they closely align with reality.”
After the mock trials, the officials answered fishermen’s questions on legal regulations, especially prohibited acts in IUU fishing.
The organizers presented gifts, life jackets, essential supplies, and national flags to policy-beneficiary families and local fishermen, encouraging them to safely set sail and contribute to protecting maritime sovereignty.
