In La Gi ward, every fishing vessel and its captain have a management profile and Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS) are checked regularly with weekly reports.

“We have established teams to verify and make lists of ship owners, steersmen, captains, and fishermen on the vessels. The VNeID system is being used to identify local fishing boats,” Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tap, Deputy Head of the La Gi ward Police, said.

Lam Dong fishermen consider complying with IUU regulations a mandatory requirement for sustainable fishing.

“We are complying with the installation of VMS for journey tracking. When an incident occurs at sea, we can maintain contact, allowing rescue forces to respond swiftly,” Phan Chau, a fisherman in Phuoc Hoi ward, told VOV.

According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, Lam Dong has 8,200 registered fishing vessels, more than 98% of which have had their data uploaded to the National Database on Population (VNeID).
