According to Israeli media, Tel Aviv was the focal point of anti-government protests sparked by dissatisfaction over the handling of the conflict in Gaza, where 58 hostages are still being held.
Among the demonstrators were former hostages, relatives of those still held in Gaza, and university students. The protesters asked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to immediately reach a deal with Hamas to release the hostages and end the fighting.
At the headquarters of Netanyahu’s Likud Party, clashes broke out between demonstrators and security forces, resulting in two police officers injured and at least 62 protesters arrested.
The Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories announced that 121 trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.
According to international aid organizations, however, the amount of humanitarian aid permitted into the enclave in recent days meets only a fraction of the urgent need there.
