(VOVWORLD) -Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday sent a letter to the UN Secretary General and the President of the UN Security Council, demanding the Security Council to hold an urgent meeting to condemn Israel’s airstrike on the Islamic Republic.

In a ministry statement, Araghchi said that “most of the projectiles fired were intercepted by Iran’s defense systems,” but the attack led to damage at “the target points,” as well as the death of four soldiers.

Iran's foreign minister said the Israeli attack was a “clear violation of the sovereignty” of Iran, which reserves the inherent right to respond.

Israel said earlier it had attacked locations in Iran in retaliation for the October 1 attack that Tehran targeted Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that his country's airstrike on Iran was "precise and powerful", achieving all its goals.

The Security Council then issued a notice saying it would convene a meeting on Monday in New York at Iran's request. Israel's Ambassador to the UN Danny Dannon said he would protect Israel's right to self-defense.
