Nguyen Trong Nghia, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Communications and Education Commission, addressed a celebration attended by 2,700 delegates in Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province, on Sunday evening.

Nghia called the bonding of northerners and southerners during war time a symbol of the great solidarity of the Vietnamese people and the historical strength that drives the country forward in today's era.

“In the near future, we need to further strengthen our close and effective cooperative bonding. In war, we shared bread and butter, in peace we must join hands, maximize the strength of each locality, and support each other for a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, and happy Vietnam," Nghia said.

The celebration inaugurated a Memorial Zone for southern compatriots, officers, soldiers and students sent to the north. Then a special art program recreated the train trips to the North as well as the growth and great contributions of generations of southerners to national construction and defense.
