Russian missiles continued to hit targets in Kyiv. Sirens were blaring over the past hours.

The Office of the President of Ukraine confirmed that Russian troops seized control of the Gostomel airfield, 17km northeast of Kyiv, an important target located near Antonov international airport.

On Friday, the European Union announced new sanctions against Russia, focusing on its financial, energy, transport and export sectors.

Countries around the world are calling for dialogue between Russia and Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron said he is ready to broker a truce.

In the wake of escalation in Kyiv and other major cities, tens of thousands of Ukrainians have fled to the borders with Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, and Moldova.

The authorities in Eastern European countries have made humanitarian declarations that they are ready to receive refugees from Ukraine. Polish President Andrzej Duda has prepared reception points for thousands of refugees along its border with Ukraine.
