The Innovative Financial Incentives for Adaptation in Wetland Livelihoods (IFIA) project supports small-scale producers, ethnic minorities, and youth in adapting to climate change impacts in coastal areas.
Partnering with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Vinh Long provincial People’s Committee, IFIA promotes eco-aquaculture, eco-tourism, and sustainable mangrove management. It pilots innovative financial tools to help communities access capital and adopt adaptive technologies.
Nguyen Truc Son, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Long provincial People’s Committee, said, “This is an opportunity to strengthen our local economies while protecting our natural resources.”

Nguyen My Hang, a representative of the Vietnam Agency of Seas and Islands (VASI) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, said that the project aligns with ongoing climate-smart agricultural efforts and aims to empower local communities, increase private sector engagement, and support environmental sustainability.
“This project is timely and strategic. By embedding innovation into both finance and policy, we are creating a model for adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable development in vulnerable coastal areas,” she said.
The IFIA project, scheduled from June 2025 to June 2029, contributes to Vietnam’s national climate adaptation goals and Sustainable Development Goals and fosters resilience and sustainable livelihoods in vulnerable wetland areas.
