Under a government direction, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will review coal-fired power plants and find alternative fuel sources for them after 2030.

The Ministry is also asked to map out incentive policies to encourage offshore wind power development and seek solutions for more efficient and rational use of solar energy.

At the recent COP26 in the UK, Vietnam was committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, signed the Global Methane Pledge aimed at reducing methane emissions, and pledged to phase out and not build or invest in new coal-fired power plants under the Global Coal to Clean Power Transition Statement.
