At the beginning of 2024, Gabriel Attal became, at 34, the youngest Prime Minister in France’s history. After leaving his position as Prime Minister, Mr. Attal will head the parliamentary faction of Macron’s Renaissance party.
A replacement Prime Minister has not been named, as the recent election left the National Assembly with no dominant political bloc in power.
The left-wing alliance New Popular Front (NFP), which won the most seats in the legislative elections, has yet to propose a Prime Minister candidate. The Socialists, the Communists, and the Greens agreed on a shared candidate – Laurence Tubiana, a climate expert. Her candidacy was rejected, however, by the main party within the left alliance, France Unbowed (LFI).
