(VOVworld) – Vietnam's leather and footwear industry has set a 14 billion USD export target for this year.

To achieve the target, since the beginning of 2015 the sector has taken advantage of Free Trade Agreements with the EU and the Republic of Korea, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement. Phan Thi Thanh Xuan, Secretary General of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso), said the industry has great potential for exports because orders with major brands are still valid and likely to increase: “We will continue to focus on boosting export growth, controlling the domestic market, increasing the localization ratio to 70%, and setting up material zones to meet production needs. We will also improve the quality of human resources, increase productivity, turn out high quality products, ensure social security for workers, and create a safe production environment toward sustainability.”
