(VOVworld) – Vietnam’s leather footwear output reached nearly 27 million pairs in July, increasing by more than 17 percent compared to the same period last year. The country's leather footwear exports earned 4.8 billion USD, a rise of 16 percent on last year. The sector is facing opportunities created by the growing tendency of shifting orders from China to Vietnam. Ho Thi Kim Thoa is Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade: “At present, leather footwear manufacturing companies have performed well with a rise of 17 percent in manufacturing and consumption increasing by 27.6 percent. The competitiveness of leather footwear and textiles sectors is improving.”
Vietnam is entering the final rounds of negotiations to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which creates opportunities for the leather footwear industry to increase its ability to utilize advanced technology and famous global brand-names.
