(VOVWORLD) - An online conference on economic forecast for Vietnam and the Mekong Delta in the fourth quarter of this year with prospects for 2022 was co-organized on Friday by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI)’s branch in Can Tho City, VOV in the Mekong Delta, and the Vietnam International Arbitration Center.

VCCI Vice President Vo Tan Thanh said after a long COVID-19 fight, many Mekong Delta provinces have eased social distancing and accelerated vaccination to help people return to work soon. Economic recovery in key markets such as the US, EU, South Korea, and China will raise import demands. Vietnam’s export of agro-forestry and fishery is forecast to increase sharply in the rest of the year.

“The time to reopen is when businesses are very weak after several months of hibernation. In new normal period, besides support from the government and local administration, businesses should enhance effort and innovation to find appropriate way to survive,” said Thanh.

VOV President Do Tien Sy pledged to aid the Vietnamese business community, saying “We have a domestic market of nearly 100 million people, economic relations with many countries, and many economic, trade, and investment agreements. More importantly we have an ambitious business community. These conditions and practical actions by the political system give us a strong belief that the business community will overcome difficulties to build a strong and prosperous Vietnam.”

Participants have analyzed challenges for economic recovery and the government’s incentives to revive production and trade in the new normal period.
