Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers said on Wednesday that more than 1,000 Australian citizens in Israel and another 870 in Iran have registered with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for government assistance to safely leave the region.

The same day, Britain said "family members of staff at the British embassy in Tel Aviv and the British consulate in Jerusalem have been temporarily withdrawn as a precautionary measure." However, "the embassy and consulate continue with essential work including services to British nationals," it added.

A special Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight repatriated 107 Pakistanis early on Wednesday. Indonesia has also announced plans to evacuate 386 of its nationals from Iran.

Governments around the world are working to find a resolution to the Israel-Iran conflict. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Wednesday said he held a phone call with Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi and foreign ministers from several other European nations. He said he urged Tehran to resume negotiations on its nuclear program.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has called on European powers, particularly France, Britain and Germany, to play a direct and effective role in pushing for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Iran and a return to negotiations.
