The talks now centre on compensation for victims of their armed conflict. The Bogota government and FARC guerillas have been negotiating for more than two years in Havana to bring an end to the 50-year insurgency, but key issues remain unresolved, including disarmament and how any agreement should be ratified. During the 10-day talks the two sides are scheduled to consult a History Commission, which was established last August under their agreement to identify the causes of their conflict. They will also consult a group of army generals, which is in charge of checking technical standards of the disarmament, creating a demilitarised zone, reviewing FARC detainees’ files, and ensuring their safety after the disarmament.
