(VOVworld) - Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Sunday claimed victory over Senator Bernie Sanders in Puerto Rico's Democratic primary.

Ms. Clinton won 62.5 percent of the vote, while Mr. Sanders garnered 37.1 percent. Clinton is expected to receive at least 31 of Puerto Rico's 60 pledged delegates. The victories in primaries in Puerto Rico and the Virgin islands have enhanced Clinton’s status ahead of significant primaries in 6 states including New Jersey and California on Tuesday. Ms. Clinton now possesses 2,355 delegates and only needs around 60 votes to become the Democratic candidate for the presidential election in November.
