Trump said the move is intended to protect national security and the interests of the US and its people.
The banned countries include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. The ban will take effect on Monday.
In addition, there will be tighter restrictions on people from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
In his first presidential term in January 2017, Trump signed a travel ban restricting the entry of most citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen.
