(VOVworld) - Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi and US Secretary of State John Kerry have agreed to cooperate in the fight against the raging Ebola epidemic in Africa, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang on Saturday.

Ebola continues to spread in West Africa

During his US visit, Yang noted that Ebola, which continues to spread in West Africa, has become a threat to public health and requires concerted efforts by the international community. He added that the US and China have their respective advantages in fighting the deadly virus and China is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the US and the rest of the international community to help the affected African countries.

EU Foreign Ministers met on Monday to discuss Ebola preventive measures. The World Health Organization reported that 4,555 people have died from Ebola out of a total of 9,200 cases.
