In addition to evacuating more than 865,000 people, the provincial flood control bureau said nearly 29,000 ships had been ordered back to port following wind guts at 10 meters high off coast.
Shanghai city bordering Zhejiang province has issued the highest level alert and called on dwellers to stay home as the weather disrupted scores of flights, trains and buses from Shanghai. China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines cancelled around 400 flights on Saturday, state media said.
China's National Meteorological Centre (NMC) said the powerful storm is expected to landfall Zhejiang province on Saturday afternoon before moving into Shanghai.
Before coming to China, Chan-hom killed 5 Filipinos and injured 20 others in Japan.
