Biden-Xi meeting expected to ease tensions

(VOVWORLD) - US President Joe Biden will meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping Monday in Bali, Indonesia. This will be their first in-person meeting since Biden took office.

The leaders will discuss maintaining and strengthening lines of communication, managing competition, and working together where their interests align, such as on the Ukraine crisis and North Korea’s nuclear testing.

Biden has previously expressed his hope of working with Xi to reduce tensions.

The two are expected to lay out where their red lines are, identify areas of cooperation, and stabilize the relationship, but observers have low expectations for any major breakthrough or joint statement.
