Thanh and Andrews discussed the enormous opportunities for bilateral cooperation once the COVID-19 pandemic is under control. The Premier lauded Vietnam’s early opening of its border to foreign tourists, which, he believes, will reinvigorate trade, investment, and tourism. He said he is ready to sign cooperation agreements with Vietnamese localities, in particular Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang city. He promised to promote Vietnam to local businesses and said he will send Victoria leaders and entrepreneurs to Vietnam to learn about business opportunities.

In her talk with Thanh, Governor Linda Dessau said Victoria has its door wide open to Vietnamese companies. It will host activities in Melbourne in 2022 and 2023 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

Thanh also met with Minister for Trade Martin Pakula and other state officials, to whom he appealed for cooperation projects under Victoria’s Trade and Investment Strategy with Southeast Asia and other cooperation mechanisms between Australia and Vietnam. He said he hopes to see the formation of a network connecting Victoria businesses who share an interest in business expansion to Vietnam.
