The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said 6 people died at a high school in Tumbler Ridge, 2 other bodies were found in a nearby house, and 1 victim died on the way to hospital. The suspected gunman was also found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and police said there were no other suspects or ongoing threats to the public.

About 25 other people are receiving treatment at a local medical center.

Authorities say an investigation is being conducted to determine the sequence of events and the motive behind the attack.
