ASEAN+3 commits to economic integration, WTO reform

(VOVWORLD) -ASEAN countries together with Japan, China and the Republic of Korea (ASEAN+3, APT) on Sunday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional economic integration and maintaining the rules-based multilateral trading system amid mounting global uncertainties.

The ASEAN 2025 Chairman’s Statement following the 26th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting said the ministers welcomed the adoption of the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on Responding to Global Economic and Trade Uncertainties.

The ministers reaffirmed their determination to provide practical impetus to address current trade challenges, support necessary reforms of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and promote inclusive and sustainable growth.

The APT-26 Foreign Ministers also emphasized the need to bolster and upgrade free trade agreements with external partners, strengthen supply chains, and maximize the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). In addition, the meeting reaffirmed the commitment to boosting sustainable agri-food systems, improving regional health security, enhancing disaster resilience, and climate cooperation.
