At a press conference in Hanoi on Tuesday, Deputy Chief of the Presidential Office Pham Thanh Ha said the amnesty reaffirms the leniency policy of the Party and State, as well as the Vietnamese tradition of humanitarianism.

The review process was conducted in a strict, transparent, fair, and lawful manner, he noted.

“According to the Ministry of Public Security, almost all previously pardoned inmates have successfully reintegrated into the community. I called on Party committees, authorities, mass organizations, and all citizens to continue supporting amnesty recipients as they return to their communities,” Mr. Ha said.

Among the pardoned are 25 foreign nationals from nine countries. Mr. Ha emphasized that the amnesty process applies equally to Vietnamese and foreign inmates.
