(VOVworld) – 68 people were injured in a suicide bombing in Qualat City, the capital of southern Afghan province Zabul, local authorities said on Monday.

Mirwas Noorzai, the chief of Zabul’s police, said that the attacker detonated a ton of explosives which had been loaded onto a truck parked near the provincial council’s office. The attack also damaged several government buildings, stores, and houses in the area.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. Its spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, tweeted that the bomber’s target was the offices of the provincial council and judicial branch.
He also said that 2 Taliban militants had infiltrated Afghan security forces in order to carry out the attack.
