(VOVworld) – Afghan authorities reported Wednesday that a series of mountain avalanches has killed more than 100 people and the number of casualties is likely to increase. Most of the victims were from Panjshir province where 95 bodies have been found. 29 people injured. The avalanches, after two days of heavy snow, destroyed more than 100 homes in Panjshir and blocked roads, making it difficult for rescue workers to reach the stricken villages. Civilians and government workers used shovels and bare hands to rescue people buried under the snow. Governor Abdul Rahman Kabiri warned that the toll could rise without emergency help.
