(VOVworld) - The National Assembly’s Committee for Ethnic Affairs (CEA) and ActionAid International in Vietnam signed a cooperative agreement in Hanoi on Tuesday to promote the rights of ethnic minority people in the 2015-2017 period.
Under the deal, both sides have pledged to expand a sustainable livelihood model for ethnic minority youth that has been successfully piloted in central Nghe An province.
They will also conduct surveys on Vietnam’s commitments to the rights of ethnic minority people and promulgation of laws and policies to ensure the rights of ethnic minority people. According to the agreement, the rights of ethnic children, especially the right to study in their own language should be protected.
CEA Vice Chairman Hoang Xuan Luong said at the signing ceremony: “we hope that ActionAid International will continue to provide financial support and share sustainable livelihood model experience to help ethnic minority people escape poverty in the future. We also expect that the ActionAid International will help the committee analyze and monitor activities by the Vietnamese government organizations to ensure the rights of ethnic minority people.”
