At a meeting in Moscow on Wednesday, Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi said the Liberation of the South and National Reunification are glorious landmarks in the history of Vietnam and of humanity.

They are remarkable achievements in the global struggle for national liberation and the fight against oppression of the 20th century, he added. The same day, the Vietnamese Veterans Association in Russia also held a celebration of Vietnam’s national reunification.

At the event held in Paris, National Secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF), Fabien Roussel, called Vietnam’s victory on April 30, 1975 a powerful symbol of the fight for peace, freedom, and justice.

The French Communist Party had stood side-by-side with Vietnam since the 1950s and always supported Vietnamese people in their fight for independence, he said.

"For French communists, Vietnam’s Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day is also a celebration of our great friendship and solidarity with the Vietnamese people. All of us here consider ourselves descendants of President Ho Chi Minh, who, before returning freedom to the Vietnamese people and serving as Vietnam’s President, was a delegate at the 1920 Congress which founded the French Communist Party. And we are proud of it," according to Roussel.

Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang attributed the historic triumph to the countless sacrifices of Vietnamese people and support from French and peace-loving friends around the world.

He said, "We were not alone in our struggle for national independence and the support from our friends in France was proof of that. We would like to reaffirm our profound gratitude to all those who supported the two Vietnamese delegations during the Paris Peace Accords and took part in protests in France and elsewhere against the American war in Vietnam."

Also as part of the event were an art exhibition themed “Vietnam, A Picture of Peace,” a screening of the documentary film “Only Time Will Tell” by directors Daniel Roussel and Yann De Sousa, and a discussion on Vietnam’s socio-economic transformations since 1975, which offer a deeper understanding of modern-day Vietnam and its people.
