By 10 a.m on September 18th, 53 people have died and 13 others have bene reported missing in a landslide in Lang Nu, Lao Cai province.

A: Over the last 10 days almost all of our attention has been taken by typhoon Yagi’s devastation and Vietnam’s rescue and relief efforts.
B: VOV listeners around the world have followed the developments of the disaster and shared their sympathy for the victims. Jayanta Chakrabarty of India said: “As a long time listener to Voice of Vietnam I was disheartened at hearing about the disaster caused by typhoon Yagi which lashed northern Vietnam last week. There was an unfortunate loss of precious lives and immense damage to property and infrastructure in many provinces. VOV reported that donations from various quarters are being received to support the victims. I hope and pray that the courageous people of Vietnam will be able to overcome this natural disaster and resume normal life as soon as possible.“
A: Jose Saquimux of Guatemala emailed us to say: “I’d like to express my solidarity with the people of Vietnam and extend my condolences to the victims. I wish your country a speedy and full recovery.”

B: Sok Heng of Kampong Thom, Cambodia, told us: “I’m shocked by the images of the damage caused by typhoon Yagi when it hit Vietnam. My condolences to the families of the victims and I hope you will soon overcome this difficult period.”
A: Vicentiu Gheorghe of Romania emailed us to express his deepest condolences to those affected by the recent typhoon, especially the families who have lost loved ones and those who are still searching for missing relatives. Gheorghe wrote: “In such difficult times the strength and resilience of the Vietnamese people becomes even more visible. I believe the whole country will unite to support those in need. I’d like to commend the efforts of emergency rescuers, volunteers, and all those who are working tirelessly to provide relief to affected communities.”
B: French listener Gilles Gautier wrote: "I just heard the news about typhoon Yagi’s damages in Asia, especially in your country. So far more than 200 people have died. I hope the number was overestimated. Otherwise, I hope it will not increase. My sincere condolences to the Vietnamese people affected by this disaster and the families who have lost loved ones. I wish them a lot of strength to overcome it."
A: Juan Diez, who lives in Santander, Spain, extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wished Vietnam a speedy recovery. Juan said he wanted to help ease some of the pain by sending a donation directly to VOV. When he went to his bank they asked for details of the VOV bank account to which he wanted to send the donation.

B: We’re grateful to you all for sharing your sympathy for the victims. The Voice of Vietnam is calling for donations of money from Vietnamese and foreign individuals, businesses, associations, and organizations. The donations are delivered to those in need in Yen Bai, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Thai Nguyen, and Cao Bang province.
A: VOV has collaborated with others to organize fundraising events. 120,000 USD was raised Tuesday evening by an art program called "Vietnam Resilient". All proceeds were channeled to flood victims through the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
B: The event was organized by VTC Digital Television, the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), Hanoi Moi newspaper, and the Oscar Media Company.

A: Reporter Nguyen Dinh Hoan shared his grief when working in flooded areas in Lao Cai and Yen Bai province, especially at Lang Nu, where a landslide swept away a lot of people:
“We saw with our own eyes how hard the rescuers worked. We saw people lying under the rubble, including small children. Those are heart-rending images that I will never forget.”
A: In disaster-hit localities VOV staff heard news that warmed their hearts – despite a power outage, people could still listen to the daily news on the radio.
Hoan said: “Some people told us that despite heavy rains and floods and blackouts, they still could listen to the news from the Voice of Vietnam. We’re proud of what we’re doing. Our news reaches people in a timely manner."
B: Nguyen Khac Tuan, representing the EI Education and Investment Group during the "Vietnam Resilient" program, said: “The recent flooding was devastating and I was moved by the images and reports covering the disaster. Through this program, I’d like to give 100 million VND in cash and 1 billion VND in educational scholarships to flood victims. I also hope to support 10 children orphaned by the floods, sponsoring their education until they reach university.”
A: A highlight of the "Vietnam Resilient" charity program was the auction of an electric motorbike donated by Vinfast. The bike, featuring the program's logo designed by artist Xuan Khoi, fetched 8,000 USD.
B: A painting by artist Doan Nguyen was auctioned for another 8,000 USD. In total, 120,000 USD was raised in this program.
