Vietnam receives 15 million USD, 200 tons of supplies from foreign organizations, embassies

(VOVWORLD) -Ravaged by the Typhoon Yagi, which swept through northern Vietnam on September 7, Vietnam has so far received about 15 million USD and 200 tons of essential goods from international organizations and embassies, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Wednesday.

At an event in Hanoi to receive emergency aid for people affected by the devastating typhoon, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep said foreign aid has been delivered to localities. He informed about the Vietnamese Government's efforts to overcome the consequences of natural disaster.  

United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pauline Tamesis said that her Office will continue to coordinate with natural disaster risk reduction partners and relevant Vietnamese agencies to mobilize resources to help recovery efforts.

At the ceremony, representatives of embassies of the countries presented symbols of support to people in natural disaster areas. The British Embassy announced 1.3 million USD (1 million pounds). The Indian Embassy pledged 1 million USD in relief goods. The US Embassy supported 1 million USD, New Zealand Embassy 620 thousand USD, Australian Embassy supported 2 million USD, and Republic of Korean Embassy pledged 2 million USD.
