(VOVWORLD) - 2023 was an exciting year for Vietnam's foreign affairs, with many milestones, especially in multilateral diplomacy. In 2024 Vietnam will continue to propose initiatives and take actions to affirm its stance as a peace-loving country and its readiness to engage in meeting shared challenges globally.

Vietnam's multilateral diplomatic activities are implemented with the motto “Positive, proactive, and responsible” with the goal of creating a developed, prosperous, and sustainable future for all peoples and countries.

Building the image of a positive and responsible Vietnam

In 2024 multilateral diplomacy will continue to play an important role in national political, economic, and social life. Participation in multilateral mechanisms and forums will continue to be an important channel for Vietnam to maintain and reinforce its peaceful and stable environment and national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; contribute its voice to solving traditional and non-traditional security challenges globally; and make full use of external resources for socio-economic development.

Vietnam has paid special attention to organizing high-level activities and successfully hosting multiple events. It has actively promoted its role in UN agencies like UNESCO and the Human Rights Council, campaigned for positions in other mechanisms, and contributed initiatives to multiple fields such as food security, climate change, and cultural heritage.

“We’ll continue to innovate our mindset on foreign affairs. We need to find new ways to benefit the nation, detect new problems, identify opportunities, correctly assess the country's strategic position, and take advantage of international trends to develop appropriate policies and make appropriate decisions,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son talked about Vietnam's diplomatic orientation in 2024.

While fulfilling its duties as a member of international organizations and agencies, Vietnam continues to propose and promote cooperative initiatives for urgent issues such as energy transformation, water and food security, and digital transformation. Through these activities Vietnam affirms its consistent stance of promoting multilateralism, respecting international law and the UN Charter, and supporting dialogue, cooperation, solidarity, and actions for peace, sustainable development, and global challenges.

Vietnams prestige in the geopolitical sphere

Vietnam has carried out its multilateral diplomatic policies with a high sense of responsibility to build its image as a modern, prestigious country.

Vietnam is an active, disciplined member of many global economic and geopolitical organizations, including the UN. Vietnamese Ambassadors have played a role in making Vietnam’s voice heard regionally and globally.

Grigory Trofimchuk, Chairman of the Council of Experts of the Eurasian Research Fund, said Vietnam’s diplomatic activities affirm that it’s a strong and prestigious nation. This could only be achieved by resilient Vietnamese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, he noted.

Through multilateral diplomatic activities, Vietnam will convey its perspective and approach to global problems and implement the foreign policy orientations set by the 13th National Party Congress.
