Vietnam’s contributions to resolving global issues
Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Thanh Binh said the Prime Minister's trip is important for many reasons. First, it affirms Vietnam's position at the G20.
This is the first time Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has attended a G20 Summit even though Vietnam is not holding the rotating presidency of any multilateral forum. (Vietnam was invited to attend the G20 Summit when it was the Chair of APEC in 2017 and ASEAN in 2010 and 2020). This shows that the international community, and the host Brazil, value Vietnam’s role in the global economy and Vietnam's influence and contributions to global multilateral mechanisms.
Second, the trip acknowledges Vietnam's responsibility to address global challenges and promotes Vietnam's strengths and experience. Prime Minister Chinh will deliver speeches at two sessions – "The fight against poverty" and "Sustainable development and energy transition". He will talk about Vietnam’s achievements in poverty reduction, which have been praised around the world. Mr. Chinh will also describe Vietnam’s views and approaches to energy transition, and implementation of its sustainable development strategy.
Deputy Minister Pham Thanh Binh said this is an opportunity for Vietnam to contribute to urgent global issues commensurate with Vietnam's position and strength in the new era of national development.
There will be bilateral meetings between Prime Minister Chinh and other leaders to discuss specific cooperation issues.
Huge cooperation opportunity between Vietnam and Brazil
The Vietnamese Prime Minister’s visit will bring the Vietnam-Brazil bilateral relationship to a new level, strengthen political commitment and trust, and open up a wider space for cooperation.
Brazil is Vietnam's largest trading partner in Latin America and the second largest in America, after the United States. Vietnam is one of Brazil's leading partners in ASEAN.
The two countries have enhanced cooperation in various fields, including agriculture, science, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that developing culture and expanding cooperation in culture, sports, and tourism have reflected the Party's wise to promote culture on a par with economics and politics, introduce Vietnamese culture to international friends, and absorb other cultural influences to enrich Vietnamese culture.
During his trip, Prime Minister Chinh will meet with President Da Silva to review the implementation of high-level agreements reached during the Prime Minister's official visit last September and discuss orientations and measures to improve bilateral relations.
He will attend activities celebrating the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, including the inauguration of a memorial plaque for President Ho Chi Minh in Rio de Janeiro and Vietnam Day in Brazil.
