Vietnam responds to Earth Hour 2019

(VOVWORLD) - Diverse activities are taking place across Vietnam in response to Earth Hour, an annual global event celebrated on March 30th. The main activity is turning off the lights for one hour at 8:30 pm.

Hanoi has organized bicycle and walking tours to encourage organizations, schools, families, and individuals to join Earth Hour. Competitions on energy saving and environmental protection were held and posters and banners were displayed at public places, supermarkets, and schools. The August Revolutionary Square in Hanoi will host Earth Hour night on Saturday.

Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Head of the Energy Saving and Sustainable Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said: “This year’s Earth Hour focuses on energy saving measures and technological solutions of the 4thIndustrial Revolution worldwide. We use social networks as our main communication channel. Earth Hour’s Ambassadors will be celebs and famous figures in many social sectors to attract public attention.”

Electricity of Vietnam, HCMC branch, will join the Earth Hour campaign by switching off unnecessary lights at its offices and releasing public messages about energy saving.

Son La mountain province’s Power Company distributed leaflets and displayed banners on main streets. Da Nang city organized meetings and walking tours to raise public awareness on climate change and energy saving. The central province of Quang Binh encouraged people to switch off electric devices such as TVs, fans, refrigerators, air-conditioners, and lights.

Themed “Save Energy, Save Earth”, Earth Hour 2019 is not just about energy saving. It also aims to change people’s behaviours for a greener world.
