After their sea and island experience in Nha Trang and Cam Ranh, many tourists have travelled about 50 kilometers to the mountainous district of Khanh Son to enjoy its cool climate, majestic natural landscapes, local fruit specialties such as durian, mangosteen, and jackfruit and explore Raglai ethnic cultural values. Stone musical instruments, the ‘mã la’ brass musical instrument, and long traditional houses are local attractions.

Giang Thi Ngoc Dung, a visitor from Hanoi, said: “Visitors can explore regional cultures. For example, this region is famous for stone musical instruments. There are also many other attractions, I myself want to come back many more times. The region boasts great potential to develop tourism.”

Khanh Son district has invested in many projects to attract tourists and develop the local economy. The district has created a 1.5-hectare platform on the top of Khanh Son pass and built a road to Tà Gụ waterfall tourist area as well as multiple community cultural houses. Cultural activities featuring local stone musical instruments have been held while folk music classes organized.

Since 2019, the district has held fruit festivals annually drawing a lot of tourists. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, Director of the Department of Tourism of Khanh Hoa province, said: “The Department of Tourism and other departments have worked closely to promote tourism in Khanh Son. We plan to develop community tourism as a local specialty by bringing into play local uniqueness.”

By 2025, Khanh Son district aims to develop a community eco-tourism model in Son Hiep commune and an agricultural eco-tourism site in Son Binh commune, to welcome 23,000 tourists a year. By 2030 they hope to attract 45,000 visitors annually. The local tourism industry has also strengthened promotional activities, introducing local potential and strengths to investors and businesses.

Tran Tan Chong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Son Hiep commune, said: “We want to attract professional businesses to invest in local tourism and generate jobs for young people. It’s important to preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Raglai people.”

Abundant natural resources, indigenous culture, and historical traditions, all provide advantages for Khanh Son to become a major tourist destination in Khanh Hoa province.
