(VOVWORLD) - When visiting Sa Pa, a famous tourist destination in Lào Cai province, travelers are enchanted by its misty mountains and poetic landscapes, and also immerse themselves in unique cultural performances. Among them, “Sacred” stands out as a meticulously crafted art performance that honors Red Dao ethnic group. The show has been described as a symphony of Earth, Sky, and Humanity.

From all directions, the sounds converge, the deep resonance of drums, the haunting call of mountain horns, the murmur of streams blending with the solemn melodies of Páo dung folk songs. Chants and ceremonial recitations evoke a mystical world where humans communicate with Heaven and Earth through the language of faith.

On this stage, Dao artisans, local residents, and professional performers weave together a vivid cultural tapestry. Actress May Nhi, a member of the Red Dao community in Lao Cai, said: “We feel honored to participate in such a program, where we can bring back to life the unique traditions of our people.”

The lighting design mirrors the rhythm of nature, the warm brown of the earth in a scene of “Seeking land, founding a village”, the soft blue of water in “Praying for Rain”, the glowing red of fire in “The Sacred Hearth”, and the pure white that radiates when 12 sacred lamps are lit during the “Coming-of-Age” ritual, shimmering through the Sa Pa mist. Traditional ritual paintings, with signature red motifs and native patterns, are elevated through light, transforming the mountains and forests into art.

The audience is guided on a spiritual journey of the Dao people from Earth, Water, Fire, Love, and the Sacred to Union.

Performer Chao Lao Ta, also from the Red Dao ethnic group, said: “The culture of the Dao people is presented in a very organized and meaningful way, especially for young audiences. The scriptwriters and choreographers have been very skillful. Though the show is short, it captures the entire story of the Dao community’s life and evolution.”

In the past, Sa Pa was known mainly for its majestic nature and traditional village culture. Now, with “Sacred,” that picture gains a new hue, performing arts for tourism, created from the authentic materials of local life.

“Sacred” is a harmonious blend of artistic creativity and community pride that celebrates the living heritage of the Red Dao people.
