(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s exports to Canada posted strong growth in the first quarter of the year, reaching nearly 2 billion USD, 13% more than the same period last year. With the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in effect and the growing influence of overseas Vietnamese businesses, Vietnam’s export turnover to Canada is projected to surpass the 11 billion USD recorded last year.

In 2024, Vietnam enjoyed a trade surplus with Canada of nearly 10 billion USD, thanks in part to Vietnamese-Canadian businesses like Renso Foods. Cultural familiarity and a deep understanding of the market has allowed those businesses to thrive. Renso Foods has grown from a small Vancouver business into a large enterprise with three distribution centers serving all of Canada. The company intends to establish Renso Hub as a gateway for Vietnamese goods to reach global markets. CEO Linda Vu said Renso is offering 100 types of products from Vietnam.

“Vietnamese agricultural goods are incredibly delicious. But they haven’t yet made a global impact because most producers are small businesses. The creation of Renso Hub will allow more Vietnamese agricultural products to reach North America, and from there, the world,” said Linda Vu.

Canada is one of the world’s most promising markets, thanks to its open economy, diverse consumers, strong purchasing power, and strict product standards. It’s a strategic gateway for Vietnamese companies to enter the North American supply chain.

Tran Thu Quynh, Vietnam’s Trade Counselor in Canada, said: “We’re focusing on overseas Vietnamese businesses because they understand the market and consumer habits within the local Vietnamese community. This community is growing rapidly, making it a high-potential consumer base for Vietnamese goods.”

In recent years, trade between Vietnam and Canada has grown steadily in both volume and value. Vietnam is currently Canada’s 7th-largest trading partner and its top trading partner in Southeast Asia, accounting for nearly 45% of Canada’s total imports from the region.

Key Vietnamese exports, including textiles, footwear, wood and wood products, seafood, coffee, electronic components, and machinery, are favored by Canadian consumers for their quality and competitive pricing.

Canada is a trusted supplier of high-tech agricultural products, processed foods, fertilizers, and industrial raw materials.
