(VOVWORLD) - An exhibition is being held in Hanoi to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Hanoi’s victory in December 1972, dubbed “Dien Bien Phu victory in the air”. Co-organized by the Hanoi Office of Records and Archives and the National Archives Center III, the exhibition introduces documents and images praising the resilience and heroism of Hanoi's army and ordinary citizens during a 12-day-and-night battle.

The exhibition displays 80 selected documents and images, including directives of the Party and Government, and photos of soldiers and ordinary people bravely fighting the US airstrike on Hanoi. The victory forced the US army to stop bombing Vietnam’s northern region and sign the Paris Peace Accords in 1973 to end the war and restore peace in Vietnam.

The items show a comprehensive picture of the fierceness and heroic victory of the "Dien Bien Phu in the air" campaign.

Visitor Nguyen Thi Ly from Thanh Xuan district said: “I was very moved to meet historic witnesses like hero Pham Tuan at the opening of the exhibition. I hope young people will come here to learn more about history, cherish the merits of our predecessors, and make a greater contribution to the nation.”

The exhibition is divided into 3 sections. The 1st section, “Hanoi ready to fight”, introduces documents, photos, and artifacts of the rapid evacuation of people and property from the inner city by agencies, factories, and schools, the building of a fortified trench system, a medical network, an ambulance force, and a fire brigade to be ready to protect Hanoi.

The 2nd section, "Hanoi – 12 days and nights", shows the destruction of the bombing and the staunch will of the soldiers and ordinary people who carried on with production and fought at the same time to protect Hanoi.

The 3rd section, "Hanoi – the song of victory", reviews Hanoi's socio-economic development after national reunification.

The exhibition will be open until the end of this month.
