In the Cham language and some other ethnic languages of the Central Highlands, “Chum” means “kiss”. It symbolizes sharing and community solidarity. The hour-long Chum Show, which tells a story of love, healing, and connection, continually surprises the audience with sounds and images that are at once familiar and new. The show blends the music of gongs and drums, folk dances of the Cham, Ede, and Raglai ethnic minority groups, modern lighting, aerial silk dance, and acrobatics.

Nguyen Hong Quang of Khanh Hoa province, shared his impression of the show: “The modern sound and lighting combine beautifully with the performers’ movements to create a magical atmosphere. Contemporary dance and circus elements intertwine with the traditional folk music of the Cham and Central Highlands ethnic groups.”

According to Ngo Thanh Phuong, Director of the Chum Show, each act is rooted in the spiritual life of ethnic communities in the South Central region and Central Highlands but is retold through modern stage language. Exploring this cultural depth, she said, fosters greater understanding and empathy.

Phuong said:  Our message is about connection and healing, encouraging the audience to return to their roots and identity. It resonates deeply, especially at a time when the outside world is beset by storms and natural disasters.”

Programs like the Chum Show enrich the visitor’s experience and affirm Khanh Hoa as a land of rich culture and delightful discovery.
