On board were the ship’s captain, Commander Kamal Singh Rana and a crew of 46 officers and sailors. Ho Chi Minh City leaders held a welcoming ceremony for the crew and toured the ship with Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who was present at the event.

During their stay, officers, sailors and cadets of the INS Sudarshini laid wreaths at the Monument to President Ho Chi Minh, paid a courtesy visit to the High Command of Vietnam’s Naval Region 2, visited a number of historical and cultural relic sites, and participated in training exercises at sea with the Vietnam People’s Navy.

In August 2021, when Ho Chi Minh City was the epicenter of COVID-19 in Vietnam, the same ship, INS Sudarshini delivered 100 tons of liquid medical oxygen and 300 oxygen concentrators to Nha Rong-Khanh Hoi port to support the Vietnamese people in the fight against the pandemic.
