Speaking at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday in reply to reporters' query about Vietnam's reaction to China’s fishing ban in the East Sea, Ms. Hang said: "China’s fishing ban not only violates Vietnam's sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) but also violates Vietnam’s sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the exclusive economic zone determined under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)."

"Vietnam requests that China respect Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and its sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over Vietnam's maritime zones without further complicating the situation as a contribution to maintaining peace, stability and order in the East Sea," said the spokesperson.
