Providing Tet support for families with meritorious service to the nation and families facing hardship is a consistent policy of the Party and State.
Strong direction from central level
In preparation for the Lunar New Year, the Government and the President have issued a series of directives on Tet support. Government Resolution 418 and President Decision No. 1 have resulted in millions of gift packages worth between 11 and 23 USD each being delivered to policy beneficiaries and people with meritorious service. As of January 29, the Government had also provided 13,400 tons of rice to people in need.
During a visit to present Tet gifts to policy families, poor and near-poor households, and workers in Thuy Xuan ward, Hue city, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung said: “Visiting and presenting Tet gifts is a meaningful activity that reflects the responsibility and care of the Party, the State, the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for the people, particularly policy families, people with meritorious service, and those facing difficulties. Although the material value of each gift is not large, we hope it conveys the affection and concern of the Party and the State and will help people enjoy a warmer, more fulfilling Tet.”

During this Lunar New Year, the Vietnam Fatherland Front intends to deliver 30,000 gift packages to the needy people. Meanwhile, the Vietnam Red Cross Society, a core member organization of the Fatherland Front, has rolled out the nationwide “Humanitarian Tet” campaign to deliver 1.5 million Tet gift packages worth more than 28 million USD. Beneficiaries include poor and near-poor households, people with disabilities, elderly people without support, orphans, those facing special hardship, and communities affected by natural disasters and epidemics in 2025.
This year’s campaign was carried out simultaneously in all wards and communes from February 2 to 9. Activities include humanitarian Tet markets, traditional square sticky rice cake wrapping, folk games, and other community-building events bringing Tet to people at the grassroots level.

Local level responses
Following Government directives, localities have allocated public money and mobilized social resources to care for those in need.
Hanoi has distributed 1.16 million gift packages worth 22 million USD. Grassroots authorities have mobilized additional resources for charity.
Hoang Thi Huyen Trang, Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi’s Kien Hung ward, said: “The Fatherland Front Committee of Kien Hung ward has called on local residents, benefactors, and businesses to join hands in supporting people in need during this Tet. This is the first year we’ve carried out these activities under the two-tier local government model. 200 gift packages have been presented to disadvantaged households in the ward, each worth 80 USD, along with in-kind gifts. This reflects the care, solidarity and commitment of local organizations to social security.”

In Ho Chi Minh City, 210,000 Tet gift packages were distributed to policy beneficiaries, with values ranging from 40 to 400 USD each.
According to the Hai Phong Department of Home Affairs, during the Lunar New Year the city distributed gifts to 99,000 people with meritorious service.
Tet care activities strengthen social security and reinforce public confidence in the leadership of the Party and the State.
