At a meeting of the UN Security Council Wednesday, Vietnam’s representative emphasized the need to end the violence, stabilise the situation, and ensure the safety of civilians, and outlined ASEAN’s efforts to promote a dialogue and find a solution, saying ASEAN is ready to assist Myanmar in accordance with the principles of the ASEAN Charter.

The UNSC reiterated its strong support for ASEAN and its readiness to help Myanmar in a positive, peaceful, and constructive manner.

The UNSC called for safe and unimpeded humanitarian access to all people in need, and said the current situation could exacerbate problems in Rakhine state and other regions. It expressed concern that recent developments pose particularly serious challenges to the voluntary, safe, dignified, and sustainable return of Rohingya refugees and internally displaced persons. The UNSC reaffirmed its support for the people of Myanmar and its strong commitment to the sovereignty, political independence, territorial integrity, and unity of Myanmar.
