Party General Secretary To Lam speaks at a ceremony in commemoration of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27, in Bac Ninh province, July 15, 2025. |
In an article titled “Remembering the Source While Drinking the Water” published on Wednesday, Mr. Lam called for tribute to be paid through concrete, practical actions. He wrote that the tradition of gratitude is a sacred thread connecting generations, serving as a spiritual force that has helped the Vietnamese people endure hardships and build a stronger, more civilized nation.
Vietnam’s progress in renewal, development, and global integration, he noted, would not have been possible without the sacrifice of countless revolutionary soldiers, military personnel, youth volunteers, civilian workers, and parents who encouraged their children to serve at the front lines.

To recognize these contributions, the Party chief urged further expansion of policies supporting those with meritorious service. He called for more resources to be directed toward improving their material and spiritual well-being—especially in remote, border, island, and former revolutionary base areas.
He also encouraged local authorities to strengthen gratitude initiatives, including building and repairing houses of gratitude, enhancing healthcare and rehabilitation services, offering vocational training, and creating sustainable employment opportunities for the children of national contributors.
In addition, Mr. Lam urged for the application of digital technologies to build a comprehensive database of those with meritorious service and to improve the management and coordination of support systems. He also stressed the need to apply scientific and technological advancements in the search for, recovery of, and identification of martyr remains—particularly those still lacking personal information.
