The figures were released at a meeting on Thursday. Major General Tran Trung Hoa, Commander of the Army Corps of Engineers, General Director of the Vietnam National Mine Action Center, told the meeting that resolving the consequences of bombs, mines, and residual toxic chemicals left over from the war is an important, regular, and long-term task.

“The National Mine Action Center needs to collaborate with other agencies to continue to draw lessons and recommend measures to strengthen communications to avoid accidents caused by landmines and explosives left over from the war in Vietnam. It will help raise awareness and create consensus at all sectors and people on the task of resolving the consequences of landmines left over from the war,” said Mr. Hoa.

A bomb and mine survey showed that before the promulgation of the National Mine Action Program, mine pollution in Vietnam in 2018 was 6.1 million hectares of land, accounting for nearly 19% of the national area.
