Long Hoa’s 3,100 households include more than 100 poor and near-poor households. To support the people, Long Hoa Border Guard Station has implemented multiple programs and mobilized the public to participate in the protection of national sovereignty and territorial security.
Nguyen Van Truyen, Vice Chairman of the commune People's Committee, said, “The border guards have regularly disseminated Party guidelines and State policies to the people and built up public trust.”
“They have set up practical models to boost local economic development and have worked with the local administration and people to implement them effectively. This has reduced local poverty year after year.”
Ferryman Pham Van Tiep, whose family has received support from the border guard station, says his family used to live in a house made of low-quality wood with a thatched roof. When the border soldiers found out about Tiep’s situation, they came to help.
“If I have a problem, I can tell the border guards. No matter how difficult the problem is, they are willing to help,” Tiep recalled.
Nguyen Thi Vach, who has been with the Long Hoa Border Guard since the station was established 40 years ago, is a liaison between the locals and the soldiers.
She has persuaded people to comply with laws and engage in movements to make the border a safe area.
Vach says the border guard is a pillar for local farming, road building, and environmental protection, adding, “Local people love the soldiers in the green uniforms who are ready to come for help whenever there is a problem. Wherever the border guards go, everyone loves and cares for them. We feel safer with the border guard here.”

This year Long Hoa Border Guard Station donated 148 work days to helping the locals plant 3,000 trees and clear 5 kilometers of roads.
Through a program called "Helping children go to school," the Long Hoa soldiers have awarded scholarships worth 1,000 USD to 4 poor students. Their child adoption initiative has given greater educational opportunities to children in difficult circumstances.
Long Hoa Border Guard Station has played a key role in protecting marine resources, disseminating laws to fishermen, coordinating with local Party cells to ensure security and order, and reduce crime in the area.
Major Nguyen Minh Luan, the Station’s Deputy Head, says they work closely with local authorities to engage residents in protecting the national sea sovereignty and ensuring sustainable socio-economic development.
“Long Hoa Border Guard Station is well aware of the thoughts and aspirations of the people to mobilize all available resources to protect national sovereignty and border security,” said Luan. “We’ll continue working closely with local Party committees and authorities to improve people’s material and spiritual life in line with the motto: ‘Each person is a living border marker.’”
