“Kim Toi is a leader in new rural development program, calling on local people to clean up their neighborhood, build charity houses, and increase their economic production”, said  Nguyen Van Mam, Deputy Secretary of Lieu Tu commune’s Party Committee.

Working for the Fatherland Front, Toi has travelled to remote and disadvantaged areas to learn about the daily lives and aspirations of local people.

Thanks to Toi’s support, Ms. Tang Thi So Banh of Lieu Tu commune has received a charity house.

“Ms. Toi has encouraged me a lot to overcome life’s hardships. I was very happy to receive a house and would like to show my gratitude to her and the local authorities for their assistance,” said Banh.

After graduating in 2005 from Can Tho University with a major in rural development, Toi first worked for Lieu Tu commune’s People’s Committee. Since then, she has several different jobs and positions. Toi says Lieu Tu commune is home to many Khmer ethnic people whose lives are difficult.

“During fact-finding tours, I realized that many local people are still living in poverty. Many can’t afford a house. I helped set up a fund for the poor which mobilizes social resources to aid disadvantaged ethnic people. We manage to build one or two charity houses a year”, said Toi.

As Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Lieu Tu commune, Toi has been active in the “Day for the Poor” campaign. In the 2017-2022 period, her commune raised 10,000 USD and built 68 charity houses worth 110,000 USD. Lieu Tu commune has also given more than 7,300 gifts to poor local families and hundreds of scholarships to disadvantaged students.

Lieu Tu commune’s Vietnam Fatherland Front has also promoted new rural development movements and raised money to build roads and bridges and upgrade the irrigation infrastructure. With 15 public works built, the commune has completed 17 of 19 criteria for new rural development. 

“We encourage local people to keep our neighborhood clean and green by following waste collection and treatment models,” said Toi.

During the COVID-19 period, Kim Toi and the Vietnam Fatherland Front staff called on individuals and organizations to help fight the pandemic.

“As Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Lieu Tu commune, Kim Toi has always done her best to fulfill her tasks. She always takes the lead in mass mobilization work, poverty reduction, and constructing charity houses,” said Mam.

Kim Toi was one of the outstanding Vietnam Fatherland Front officials honored at a recent ceremony in Hanoi.
