Kim Ngoc Hao is a barber and a dedicated member of the Red Cross in Chau Thanh commune, Vinh Long province. He stands out as a shining example in the blood donation movement, having donated blood 20 times. Hao often explains to his customers the importance of donating blood and the value of giving back to the community.

Born in 1988, Hao grew up in a poor Khmer family. At 19, while serving in the military, he donated blood for the first time in response to a call from his unit commander.

“In the military, there was a periodic blood donation program. The commander said if we were healthy, we should donate blood to help the community. I got checked and donated. I felt fine, so I kept donating whenever there was a drive,” said Hao.

After completing his military service, Hao spent ten years in Ho Chi Minh City, working odd jobs while learning barbering. In 2018, he returned to his hometown, opened a barbershop, and got married. Though his family is not wealthy, Hao regularly participates in charity activities and blood donation drives. For him, donating blood is not just a moral act but something that brings joy and health benefits.

“After donating blood, I rest for a day, eat nutritious food, and avoid heavy work. About four days later, I’m back to normal. Donating blood boosts your metabolism because afterward, your body regenerates blood and red cells,” said Hao.

To stay fit for donations, Hao follows a balanced diet, exercises regularly, and maintains an active lifestyle. He also nurtures a positive attitude and shares that spirit with those around him, especially the local youth. His dedication has earned him several certificates of merit and commendations from Chau Thanh commune.

“Hao is truly community-minded and has a kind heart. Even though his family is not well-off, he is active in blood donation drives in his locality,” said Le Hoai Linh, Chairman of the Chau Thanh Red Cross Society.

Hao is not only a regular donor but also a source of inspiration, helping his locality become one of the top contributors in blood donations.
