Vuong Tuyet Bang, who grew up in a poor family herself, has great sympathy for disadvantaged pupils. She has taught free classes and donated money to poor pupils for more than 30 years.

Nguyen Hoang An, a 4th grader at Tay Tuu B primary school, has brittle bone disease. 2 years ago Ms. Bang received An into her class and took care of him as if he were her child.

“An’s family is very poor and his mother and sister also have brittle bone disease. An has broken a bone 6 times. At first I had difficulty taking care of him. But he made steady progress and got good marks. I was very happy with his progress. During the pandemic, I continued to help him study,” said Ms. Bang.

An has now integrated into his class and gets good marks in math.

“My favorite subject is math. Ms. Bang teaches me. I love her so much. I consider her my mother. I will try harder in my studies,” said An.

Teacher Bang has helped and donated books, clothes, and money to many other pupils. Her good deeds have inspired other teachers. Her school gives poor pupils free milk and other things and exempts them from tuition fees. Bang is widely respected and admired for her kindness.

“I’m so moved by the story of how Ms. Bang helped Nguyen Hoang An overcome his difficulties. Bang is a role model for helping others. We hope other teachers will follow her example and help disadvantaged pupils,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Vy, who works for Tu Liem district’s Department of Education and Training.

Bang won second prize in the “Hanoi’s dedicated and creative teachers” program in the 2019-2020 school year.
